Why Nervous System Work Isn't Working for You
“You are not a beginner at this.
You know what the vagus nerve is. You have a breathwork practice. You own the books. You have done the therapy.
And your nervous system is still doing that thing.
Here is the truth that most of the wellness world is not saying loudly enough: most nervous system tools were designed for standard-issue nervous systems. And if you are reading this, you probably do not have one of those.
THE STANDARD NERVOUS SYSTEM ASSUMPTION
The vast majority of nervous system regulation research, and the tools developed from it, was conducted on neurotypical, average-reactive populations.
The protocols assume a certain baseline of sensitivity. They assume that the primary inputs affecting your state are the obvious ones: physical stress, mental demand, sleep, and nutrition.
For a sensitive body, those are just the beginning.
WHAT A SENSITIVE NERVOUS SYSTEM IS ACTUALLY DOING
A highly sensitive nervous system is electromagnetically aware. It registers solar and geomagnetic activity before your conscious mind has any idea something is coming.
It is empathically attuned. It absorbs the emotional states of the people around you, sometimes hours before you identify where the feeling came from.
It is cosmically calibrated. Lunar cycles, seasonal transitions, and barometric pressure changes are not metaphors. They are physiological inputs your body is responding to in real time.
And it is hormonally amplified. When your cycle interacts with any of the above inputs, the signal doesn’t just add. It multiplies.
Apply a five-minute box breathing protocol to that complexity and you will get partial, temporary relief at best.
WHY GENERIC TOOLS FEEL LIKE TREADING WATER
The most common thing I hear from sensitive women who are stuck in a regulation loop is some version of this: “”I feel better for a few hours and then I’m right back where I started.””
That is not failure. That is physics.
You are applying a tool designed to address one input to a system that is responding to six inputs simultaneously. The math will never work until you address the system correctly.
THE MISSING PIECE: INTERPRETATION
What sensitive bodies need is not more tools. It is a framework for interpreting what the nervous system is actually responding to at any given moment.
This is the shift from regulation to decoding.
Regulation asks: how do I calm this down?
Decoding asks: what is actually creating this signal, and what does my specific system need in response?
Those are completely different questions. And they lead to completely different results.
A sensitive body that understands its own inputs can get strategic. Can prepare for high-input weeks. Can choose the right tool for the right moment rather than applying a generic protocol and wondering why it isn’t holding.
WHERE TO START
The starting point is always knowing your type. The Cosmic Sensitive Quiz gives you that foundation in about seven minutes. From there, you can start to map which inputs are primary for your system, and which tools are actually designed to work with those inputs specifically.
This week’s podcast episode goes deep on this exact topic. Come listen.
And if you’re ready to do this work in a live, guided setting, the April 17 Ceremony is happening soon.

About Amanda
Former engineer on several NASA projects turned medical intuitive. I work with female college athletes with gut pain that is taking her out of her sport. Along with the unpredictable pain, she’s struggling with depression and her grades are starting to slip. I can scan her body to see what’s wrong, clarify it for her, map the path forward, and land her back in her best condition, back in her happy life, back in the game.
