What to Plant for Overwintering
The garden’s finished its visible work for the year. What’s harvested is harvested. But underground, root systems don’t stop working just because the growing season ended, they’re doing something slower now, less visible, and just as necessary.
I think sensitive bodies operate the same way, and this time of year is exactly when it’s worth paying attention to what’s happening underground instead of only what’s showing above the soil.
What Overwintering Actually Means for a Body
Not all healing work is meant to bloom right away. Some of it is meant to be planted now, in stillness, doing quiet work all winter so it’s ready when the next active season actually calls for it. That’s a hard thing to trust, especially if you’re used to measuring progress by what you can see immediately.
But some of the most important shifts I’ve experienced, and watched clients experience, didn’t show up on the timeline anyone expected. They needed the quiet season first.
Last Winter’s Planting, This Year’s Harvest
Last winter, I watched something in myself that I didn’t fully understand at the time. My confidence, in my work, in my clients, in the whole direction of this business, didn’t waver. Not because nothing hard happened. Because something had been planted long before that winter that was finally strong enough to hold steady through it.
I didn’t see the fruit of that right away. It took until recently for it to show up clearly: my trust in energy medicine, in what I can actually do for a client’s healing without leaning as hard on supplementation, has grown in a way I couldn’t have forced. That confidence from last winter was the root system. This is the bloom.
So here’s what I’m planting for this overwintering season: I want to understand, more clearly than I do now, the actual right balance between the tangible and the intangible. Between what a supplement or a protocol can do, and what energy work alone can do. I don’t have that answer yet. I’m not supposed to. That’s exactly the kind of thing that needs a quiet season to work itself out, not a quick answer forced into the light before it’s ready.
Why This Matters for You Right Now
If you’re sitting with something that hasn’t bloomed yet, a shift you can feel underway but can’t point to results for, that doesn’t mean it isn’t working. Some of it is root system. It’s not supposed to be visible yet.
The question worth asking this season isn’t “why hasn’t this worked yet.” It’s “what am I actually planting right now, and am I giving it the quiet it needs to take hold.”
Where Journey Inward Fits
This is exactly the kind of work Journey Inward is built for. Not a quick fix, not something that promises instant, visible results. A real, supported process of going underground with your own system, understanding what’s actually there, and letting real change take root on its own timeline instead of forcing it to bloom before it’s ready.
If you’ve been pushing for immediate results and feeling like nothing’s landing, it might not be the work that’s failing. It might be the season. Some things are supposed to be planted now and trusted through the winter.
Before You Go
What are you planting this season that you don’t expect to see bloom right away? Sit with that question. You don’t need an answer today. You just need to be willing to plant it.

About Amanda
Former engineer on several NASA projects turned medical intuitive. I work with female college athletes with gut pain that is taking her out of her sport. Along with the unpredictable pain, she’s struggling with depression and her grades are starting to slip. I can scan her body to see what’s wrong, clarify it for her, map the path forward, and land her back in her best condition, back in her happy life, back in the game.
