The Initiation Sensitive People Never Got and What It Means to Finally Receive It

There’s a particular kind of grief that sensitive people carry that doesn’t get talked about.

It’s not the grief of what was hard; most sensitive people have done some version of that work. I’m talking about the grief of what was absent. The witnessing that never came. The moment that was supposed to happen and didn’t. The elder who never sat them down and said: You feel things deeply. That’s not a problem, that’s your function. Here’s how to carry it.

We’ve spent this month looking at the pattern the absence created. The holding pattern that locked in around puberty. The body that learned to compensate. The shoulders and the jaw and the gut that have been keeping score ever since.

This week is about what was supposed to happen instead.

What the Puberty Initiation Was Actually Designed to Offer

In Tlish Diyan (Apache) timing and across many traditional cultures, the puberty initiation wasn’t primarily a ceremony. It was a container for identity formation.

The community gathered. Elders held the space. The young person was witnessed into their role — seen, named, and confirmed. The message was unmistakable: you are changing, we see what you are becoming, and we’re holding a space for that becoming.

For sensitive people, this kind of witnessing is a necessity. Sensitivity needs a framework. It needs someone who can say: this is what you are, this is how it works, this is how to carry it without it carrying you.

Most sensitive people received the opposite of that. Their sensitivity was pathologised at exactly the moment it was most pronounced. They were told: you’re too much, too intense, too emotional, too sensitive. The implicit message delivered in a hundred different ways was: manage this, hide this, make yourself smaller so others are more comfortable.

The adaptation that followed was intelligent. It was also costly. The body has been paying the invoice ever since.

The Grief Underneath the Holding Pattern

Most sensitive people who do healing work spend significant energy on the holding pattern itself, addressing the symptoms, developing nervous system strategies, and trying to fix body sites where the pattern lives.

Very few have sat with the grief underneath it.

Not the grief of what was hard, but the grief of what was missing. There’s a specific quality to this grief that’s different from ordinary sadness. It’s the grief of something that was deserved but never given. The witnessing that didn’t happen. The naming that got skipped. The version of yourself that was never allowed to fully arrive — the sensitive, feeling, deeply-perceptive person who was always there, waiting for someone to see them and say: yes, this, exactly this, this is what you are.

That person is still there. The body has been holding space for them all along.

What Receiving That Container Feels Like Now

The nervous system doesn’t have a statute of limitations on this kind of work. What sensitive people describe when they finally receive genuine witnessing, in whatever form it comes, is not nostalgia or regression. It’s arrival.

Something that was waiting to happen finally happens.

The exhale that comes not from exhaustion but from relief. The shoulders that drop not because they gave out but because they were finally given permission. The tears that come not from pain but from recognition; the specific quality of tears that arrive when something finally feels true.

This is different from the relief of having a symptom managed. It’s deeper, quieter and more complete. The body recognises something it’s been waiting for.

For sensitive people who understand their Cosmic Sensitive Type, this process of receiving looks different depending on the type. SOLAs who dimmed their brightness finally allow it to be seen. BAROs whose leadership went underground are finally being confirmed in it. EMPAs who spent decades absorbing finally learn to discern. LUNAs whose cyclical nature was pathologised are finally witnessed in their rhythm.

The pattern that locked in around puberty is type-specific; so is the healing.

What This Has to Do With June

June carried the Puberty Initiation energy in Tlish Diyan timing. This month has been, from the first week to this one, a container for exactly this kind of work. Naming the pattern. Recognising the cost. Sitting with the grief of what was absent. And arriving, finally, at the question that this whole month has been building toward.

What would it mean to receive, now, something like what was always owed?

I understand what the sensitive person’s body has been holding and why. I created the Release Retreat to do this work together in person. Registration has already closed for July, but we can uncover this pattern together with a Body Scan. Once you know, we can unwind these patterns in one-on-one containers and create a belated initiation container for the sensitive person who never got one.

About Amanda

Former engineer on several NASA projects turned medical intuitive. I work with female college athletes with gut pain that is taking her out of her sport. Along with the unpredictable pain, she’s struggling with depression and her grades are starting to slip. I can scan her body to see what’s wrong, clarify it for her, map the path forward, and land her back in her best condition, back in her happy life, back in the game.
